Testing
Your Emergency Restoration Plan (ERP)
|
|
Electric cooperatives only have a few more weeks
to test their Emergency Restoration Plan (ERP)
in order to meet the Rural Utilities Service (RUS)
deadline of
January 12, 2007.
By that date, all
RUS borrowers should have tested
their ERP, made corrections as needed to address
the results of the testing, and submitted
confirmation of the testing in writing to
RUS. RUS borrowers, who have not completed the
ERP and tested the plan by that deadline, may
not be able to obtain advances of loan funds or
submit new loan approval applications.

AMR/AMI and the Energy Policy Act
|
|
While many electric cooperatives are still
evaluating automatic meter reading (AMR)
systems, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct)
requires cooperatives with annual sales greater
than 500,000 MWhs to consider time-based rates
and smart metering options. At the same time,
AMR systems have become more “intelligent” and
the new industry buzzword for AMR is Advanced
Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
Many vendors are now offering systems that
provide advanced features including full two-way
communications, remote disconnect, load
management, outage management integration, and
even in-home displays where customers can
monitor their energy usage. As a result, many
electric cooperatives are now taking a “second
look” at AMR/AMI systems both as a direct result
of EPAct and as a means for improving operations
and providing better customer service.

Your Co-op Considered Renewable Resource Energy
Options Yet?
|
|
For many reasons, developing and implementing
renewable resource energy opportunities is a hot
topic within the energy industry. If energy
companies are not performing and promoting their
renewable resource activities, difficulties may
occur with the review and approval of other more
traditional utility initiatives now or in the
future.
