EnerVision Supports Green Power EMC Efforts
EnerVision,
Inc.,
an Atlanta-based business, marketing, management and technical
analysis consulting firm, is providing significant
support for a new green power initiative in
Georgia.
U. S.
Representative Mac Collins joined EnerVision and a group of
thirteen (13) Electric Membership Corporations (EMCs) on Monday,
November 19, 2001,
at the Southface Energy Institute in Atlanta to announce the
formation of a new cooperative, Green Power EMC. “Tapping into
renewable energy sources like landfill gas represents a perfect
solution for consumers, environmental advocates and Georgia’s
electric cooperatives,” said Collins. “Utilizing green power
helps preserve our natural resources, not only for ourselves, but
for future generations. The new Green Power EMC provides greater
flexibility and choice for consumers.”
Green Power
EMC will contract for electricity generated by renewable resources
like biomass, solar and wind energy. The member cooperatives of
Green Power EMC are now Carroll EMC, Coweta-Fayette EMC, Flint
Energies, GreyStone Power, Habersham EMC, Irwin EMC, Jackson EMC,
Lamar EMC, Ocmulgee EMC, Sawnee EMC, Snapping Shoals EMC,
Tri-County EMC and Walton EMC. The “green” electricity will be
distributed by the participating EMCs to consumers’ homes or
businesses. As a result, over 600,000 Georgia
consumers will soon be the first in Georgia
to have the option to purchase green electricity through Green
Power EMC.
EnerVision
assisted in the creation of Green Power EMC
in a number of ways.
First,
EnerVision provided research, analysis, and recommendations for
green power resources and also suggested business alternatives so
that cooperatives in Georgia could effectively offer green power
options to their members. “The work by EnerVision has resulted
in the creation of Green Power EMC as a flexible organization to
efficiently support cooperative green power programs in
Georgia,”
said Green Power EMC President Mike Whiteside.
Next,
EnerVision is directly involved with the negotiations and
implementation of green energy resources from the landfill
generating developer and is managing the technical interconnection
work for the landfill projects. Results of these services include
the purchase of the entire 13 megawatt (MW) output from four (4)
biomass energy landfill projects in North and Middle Georgia.
Third,
EnerVision is providing marketing support. Market research has been
conducted, analyzed and compared to other green power programs for
individual cooperatives participating with Green Power EMC.
Research, analysis and suggestions for pricing and marketing program
development have also been provided.
Finally,
EnerVision has performed the bulk of the liaison work on behalf of
many of the Georgia cooperatives with key environmental groups and
government agencies. Development of acceptable Georgia green
pricing program accreditation criteria has taken almost a year of
discussions to adapt to Georgia green power opportunities.
Education and communications with important state and federal
government agencies is resulting in relationships, endorsements, and
potential funding opportunities for Green Power EMC activities.
“EnerVision has
been and will continue to be an integral part of our Green Power EMC
efforts to offer our members a renewable energy choice in the
future,” said Green Power EMC Secretary/Treasurer Joe Cade.
“EnerVision has provided the expertise to help us move ahead with
this business opportunity effectively and much sooner than if we had
tried this on our own.”
